Time Flies
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 9:53AM I can't believe I haven't written a post in a month. An entire month.
I have been busier than usual... I work full time in Fundraising and Communications and have an almost three year old and a 43 year old to look after, but there's been a great deal more happening lately that has kept me away from this fledgling little blog and *gasp* Twitter.
My husband and I own a Bed and Breakfast. We live in a sweet little tourist community and this house built in 1820 is the reason we packed up and moved away from Toronto 6 years ago. It was an investment in our future at the time and it appears that future is now the present. My mother agreed to operate the B&B until she retired which was great because it allowed time for Chris to get his business established here, gave me time to transplant my career from a big city to a small town (and honestly, that was way harder than I thought it would be. Apparently, a great resume means jack sh*t if there aren't many great jobs available...)
Well my mother officially retired this year and Chris and I have taken over the bed and breakfast. We were very excited and quite prepared. Chris' business is fairly slow this time of year so we decided he'd look after breakfast and be the chamber maid and I'd do everything else help out when I wasn't at work. We're normally open all year, but it's very quiet in the early spring, so we postponed opening for the season to get some renos taken care of. We completely overhauled the dining room which was a huge job (before and afters to come) and we've made other changes to several rooms. We had our first guests of the season in June and were looking forward to easing into summer. Of course we both forgot to realize the impact our volunteer commitments would have on this entire equation... I'm a director on two boards - the Daycare Association and the Milton Conmmunity Association (MCA). Chris was park supervisor for Privateer Days; the biggest event of the year. Chris has been so busy setting up and clearing out the festival I have hardly seen him in the last 10 days. Meanwhile, over at the MCA, we've been planning Milton Days - another big festival that happens NEXT WEEKEND! Ack! I'm responsible for coordinating the Garden Party Supper, media communications, site plan, pancake breakfast, plus attend all meetings and Chris is helping us with the set up and the washer toss. Basically? We'll be prepping until friday and then living at the event for 3 days straight.
Needless to say, between the festivals, the B&B and trying to keep our toddler happy fed and clean, there's not a lot of time for things like sleep, blogs and twitter... which is sad because I'm really getting into this. I want to get to know you all so much better. It may need to wait until after next weekend though ok? Please tell me you'll come back again? I promise I won't wait a month to update again.

welcome back lova.
What a beautiful B&B. I am so glad you're making your dream come true. I wish you all the best. And more free time because I really miss you when you're not around on Twitter. :)
